Mr. Nikolaos Yatrakos
The Honourable Mayor of Athens
Excellencies, Distinguished Participants in this important Biopolitics Symposium in Athens,
It is a great pleasure for me to have this opportunity to welcome all of you to the City Hall of Athens, especially since this is a joint forum of leading personalities from Hellenic and Turkish institutions. On this occasion, I would like to say that the Athens Municipality aligns its efforts towards the Balkan states co-operation. In relation to this we have the honour and pleasure to announce that the Second Inter-Balkan Conference will take place in Athens, in September 1990 with the participation of representatives from the capitals of Balkan states.
Dear friends, this symposium is of utmost significance. Everyone will have to follow with great attention the recommendations of this meeting, since your discussions and recommendations in this pioneering field can have deep impact on all levels of governmental and non-governmental agencies, as well as on every member of society.
On the basis of this belief, please allow me to award the Medal of the City of Athens to the outstanding personalities of this symposium: Dr. Agni Vlavianos-Arvanitis; His Excellency, The Ambassador of Turkey, Mr. Gunduz Aktan; Professor Necdet Serin; Professor Rusen Keles; Mr. Orhan Karakullukcu; Professor Ahmet Samsulnu and Dr. Zafer Erturk.
