PREFACE

A large part of the environmental crisis experienced in meta-industrial society is due to the pursuit of short-term economic prosperity. As a result, it is becoming increasingly important to find new ways of channelling human potential, so as to curb destruction and place respect for the bio-environment at the core of every human endeavor. A radical change in business perspective is critical, in order to ensure that the economic driving force does not work against the natural environment, but actively contributes toward a global appreciation and preservation of bios.

In December 1993, the Biopolitics International Organisation organized the Second Symposium on Business Strategy for the Bio-Environment, which gave the opportunity to leading representatives of the Hellenic and American business world to exchange views on the needed assessment of business policy to guarantee a better quality of life. What emerged from the conference was the sensitization of the business world to the fact that economic and environmental profit can be achieved simultaneously and are not mutually exclusive. Caring for the bio-environment is not only a moral responsibility, but can also be very profitable financially. This volume is a compilation of the proceedings of the Symposium, and focuses on the importance of environmental protection as a viable and successful business strategy.
