Biopolis – Sustainable Urban Development 2011

This program demonstrates numerous projects that are implementing change towards sustainable urban development. The most important aspect of sustainable urban development is the development of sustainable, socially just and inspirational communities, one neighbourhood at a time. Moreover, the efficient and sustainable use of energy is also key to the development of sustainable cities. Alona Bondarenko, Master’s Student, National Technical University of Ukraine

Green Salary 2010-2011

I appreciate the working team who developed such a course and included the most acute questions in the area of environmental protection. The most important thing from my point of view is that all the topics which have an ecological notion are connected with economic issues and can improve the situation of the world and save the living conditions of our planet. At the same time, this is the way to develop our economics and formulate the new vision and philosophy of people in general. It allows working with very familiar things and understanding their importance without any misunderstandings and limits in the information provided. For Ukraine, such an approach is quite new, so during the work with people it opens up the possibility to show the economic interest and raise additional funds for developing the environmental policy of the government. It also helped to structure the information and build up the further exploration of this idea. Kateryna Berezovska, Senior LFP Dissemination Officer, Fundraising Department, Ukraine

The material covered in the course module makes me think a lot about green salaries and green employment. Except for my main job, I am an active member of the social life of my region. Unfortunately the theme of green cleaning is not so developed in my country, unlike other developing ones. So, the examples given in the course module pushed me to try to implement some of them in Ukraine. I hope that the obtained information will not only be of theoretical but also of practical use. And I am very grateful for the examples given on the implementation of green cleaning, as well as green salaries as a whole. Vladislav Antypov, Business Development Manager, Global Carbon B.V. (The Netherlands, Utrecht), Ukraine

Natural Resources 2010

This field of study emphasizes natural resources, including land, forest, wild animals, and environmental conservation concerns. It addresses the problems of deforestation, land and coastal ecosystem degradation, biodiversity depletion, diminishing water supply, and other environmental pressures and threats on local, national, regional and global ecosystems. Given the complex nature of natural resources management issues, a wide range of skills and techniques involving advanced tools, field studies and participatory methods of natural resources management are needed to train professionals who can contribute to the conservation and sustainable management of terrestrial and coastal resources and ecosystems.
