Biopolis – Sustainable Urban Development 2011
It has been so wonderful. I actually learnt a lot and have recommended the course to several other professionals. When I have the chance, I will write a whole write-up about this course. I live in a small town, which is developing at a very high rate, and I managed to talk to the Mayor himself and, on several occasions, specifically advised him about the beautification of the town. I am happy he is on the right course. Edgar Muganzi, Conservation/Extension Officer, Hope Restoration Initiative, Uganda
South Pole Carbon is a carbon project developer for both the voluntary and the CDM market. For the CDM market, we interact with host countries whose main objective is to check the sustainable development criteria. The course has exposed me to many sustainable development issues that can be highlighted in the project documents. Moreover, the information provided can be used while interacting with the different host countries to improve on their view of sustainable development in their countries. Sustainable transport, and water and waste water were some of the key topics that attracted my attention. Ronald Twesigye, Project Manager/Country Head Uganda, South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd, Uganda
Green Salary 2010-2011
It has been so wonderful. I actually learnt a lot and have recommended the course to other professionals. When I have the chance, I will write a whole write-up about this course. I will never forget the time I met the Professor in Gijon, Spain. It was a timely opportunity for me and my community in general, and Uganda as a whole. I have been able to realise how jobs can be created out of nature, not necessarily harming the environment. Actually many environmental jobs can be created if people change their behaviour, thus forcing banks and other industries to have environmental specialists and hence create jobs. Edgar Muganzi, Conservation/Extension officer, Hope Restoration Initiative, Uganda
The material covered in this course module has helped me in so many ways relevant to my work. I have come to the realisation that, as leader of the Hope Restoration Initiative, I have a lot to do. We can involve ourselves in so many environment friendly activities which can conserve our environment and create job opportunities to help the heavily unemployed population of Uganda. Many of the youths, who constitute the strength of the nation, have resorted to drug abuse, crime and idling due to a lack of jobs. It is high time we seize the moment and make them be productive through the many ways suggested in the course module. The most valuable aspect of the course is that it provides information on dealing with the challenge of unemployment in a more practical way while maintaining a healthy and clean environment. Recycled wastes lie all over cities and no one looks into the issue. We have bare, healthy, unutilised land which can be used meaningfully while creating jobs for the many unemployed. It is high time to sensitize and help the general public and to open our eyes and see how we can start from what we have. Maureen K. Tumusiime, Chairperson, Hope Restoration Initiative, Uganda
