Biopolis – Sustainable Urban Development 2011
The module provided “must-have” information regarding the development of sustainable urban management. This topic is very relevant to my work, as my organization deals with irresponsible urban development, which includes pollution and lack of waste management. The most valuable aspect I got from the course concerns the waste management issue, as well as community capacity building. This is very relevant to me since my organization is still new and one of our aims at the central office is to provide community capacity building for the regional offices. Green Salary 2010-2011
The module covered enough materials regarding green salaries, which could be relevant to my work in terms of the environment as a global issue, and has a very relevant correlation the with economy, particularly unemployment, as one of the issues that usually become a “threat” in implementing green initiatives due to prioritizing their urgency. However, in my opinion, the course module contains some degree of subjectivity and in some parts seems too idealistic in the solutions it proposes. The most valuable aspect of the course for me is the chapter on environmentally sound business practices, since it shows that the environment may be more than a marketing tool in business, but can also work as a competitive advantage which may benefit the company itself, the employees, the community, and the environment, at the same time.
